House of Gucci narra la vida y muerte de Maurizio Gucci, el nieto del fundador de Gucci que fue asesinado en 1995 cuando iba camino a su oficina en Milán. Tras su muerte, la policía comenzó una profunda investigación en la que, dos años más tarde, se descubrió que la culpable era nada más y nada menos que su esposa, Patrizia Reggiani.
La policía descubrió que Patrizia contrató a un sicario que supuestamente trabajaba en un pizzería para que le disparará a Maurizo. El empresario recibió tres balazos en la espalda y un cuarto que finalmente le quitó la vida. Reggiani fue sentenciada a 26 años en la cárcel y además, tuvo que cumplir tres años más en servicio social.

Desde entonces, Patricia fue apodada por los medios como “La viuda negra de Gucci” y según narra la prensa italiana, con la muerte de Mauricio tenía la esperanza de apoderarse del imperio de la casa de moda que en ese entonces estaba en su pleno apogeo con la llegada de Tom Ford como director creativo.

En el 2000, Patrizia Reggiani intento suicidarse con la agujeta de un zapato pero lograron salvarla. En 2014 fue declarada en libertad tras haber cumplido 18 años en la cárcel, su sentencia se redujo por buen comportamiento. En algún momento se le ofreció colocarla en una prisión de menor seguridad en la que tendría que trabajar y podría salir antes y no aceptó. “Nunca he trabajado en mi vida y definitivamente no voy a comenzar ahora”, dijo cuando se le hizo la propuesta.
Otra de las respuestas más polémicas de Reggiani fue cuando al salir de la cárcel un reportero le preguntó por qué contrató a alguien en vez de matar a Maurizio personalmente y ella contestó sin titubear: “Mi vista no es muy buena, no quería fallar”.

Las dos hijas que tuvo con Maurizio, Alessandra y Allegra Gucci, actualmente viven en Suiza y se mantienen alejadas de ella.
Desde su salida, ha sido capturada por los paparazzi yendo de compras por las calles de Italia a un ritmo lento y descansando contra la pared constantemente ya que padece de algunos problemas físicos.
Al salir de la cárcel recibió por parte de Gucci 16 millones de libras por su tiempo en prisión y actualmente recibe una pensión 900 mil libras año.
Recientemente expresó su molestia hacia Lady Gaga por no buscarla para conocerla y así poder interpretarla de una forma más atinada. “Estoy molesta por el hecho de que Lady Gaga me esté interpretando en la nueva película de Ridley Scott sin siquiera tener la cortesía o el buen sentido de venir a conocerme”, dijo Patrizia de 72 años a una agencia italiana.
